Are you interested in making a difference in dermatological healthcare? Indiana University is a leading center for clinical research dedicated to improving healthcare through innovative studies and leading-edge dermatology clinical trials in Indiana. Our research tackles critical issues in skin biology and disease, allowing us to translate the latest advancements into real-world benefits for you.

Atopic Dermatitis

In atopic dermatitis, your skin can get super itchy, red, and scaly. Those are the tell-tale signs of atopic dermatitis or eczema. It's actually more common than you might think, affecting up to 2% of adults worldwide. If you're one of those adults with moderate to severe eczema, we might have something for you!

Indiana University is conducting a dermatology clinical trial in Indiana to test a new study drug. It's completely blind, meaning neither you nor the doctor will know if you're getting the study drug or a placebo. The study lasts about a year, but it could potentially help manage your eczema and improve your quality of life.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that causes the immune system to destroy pigment-producing skin cells, resulting in white patches. Current dermatology clinical trials in Indiana include a trial of a study drug for non-segmental vitiligo (NSV). Participants will receive either the study drug or a placebo for 48 weeks (about 11 months), followed by the study drug for 112 weeks (about 2 years).

Additional trials are examining other treatments for NSV. This second study drug is under study for its effectiveness, and another trial evaluates a third study drug. In the research study, participants will take the medicine or a placebo and undergo extensive monitoring over 26 months (about 2 years) through regular visits and various medical tests to assess the treatment’s safety and impact.

Alopecia Areata (AA) Clinical Trial

Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune condition that leads to hair loss, primarily on the scalp and face. This can deeply impact a person's self-image and emotional well-being. Our clinical trial aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of an investigational drug for adults with Alopecia Areata. Participants will receive either the study drug or a placebo for up to 160 weeks (about three years), with potential re-randomization.

If you or someone you know is affected by Alopecia Areata and traditional treatments have not been effective, consider joining our clinical trial. Your participation could help advance research and lead to new treatment options for Alopecia Areata.

Palmoplantar Keratoderma (PPK)

Palmoplantar Keratoderma (PPK) is a group of rare genetic disorders characterized by the thickening of the skin on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. This condition can cause painful fissures and significantly impact daily activities. Current clinical trials in Indiana are exploring innovative treatments for PPK, focusing on both reducing the thickness of the skin and improving the quality of life for patients.

Participants in these trials will receive either the investigational drug or a placebo over a period of 48 weeks (about 11 months), followed by extended monitoring to assess long-term effectiveness and safety.

Additional studies are underway to evaluate other potential therapies for PPK. In one study, a second investigational drug is being tested for its effectiveness, while another trial is evaluating a third promising treatment. Participants in these studies will undergo rigorous testing and monitoring over 26 months (about 2 years) to determine the treatment's safety and impact.
